Photo, Video, or Both

Detection Sensitivity by Season
The motion sensor reads heat against background temperature, so the right sensitivity changes with the weather. This is the setting most people set once and never revisit, and it costs them photos.
In cold months a warm deer stands out sharply against a frozen background, so a high sensitivity works cleanly and grabs animals at the edge of the zone. In summer heat the contrast between a deer and an 85°F backdrop shrinks, and a high setting starts firing on sun-warmed brush and heat shimmer. Night Mode, Shutter, and Image Size

Night mode or IR shutter controls how long the sensor stays open after dark. If your night photos show ghosted, streaky deer, switch to the fast or "motion freeze" option and accept a slightly dimmer shot in exchange for a usable one.

Time-Lapse for Fields and Food Plots
Time-lapse is the one mode most hunters ignore and then wish they had used. Instead of waiting on the motion sensor, the camera shoots a frame on a fixed schedule, say every 5 minutes at dawn and dusk, no matter what moves.
It solves a specific problem the motion sensor cannot: deer stepping into a large field 80 or 100 yards out, well past the roughly 80-foot reach of any infrared trigger.
