FTC Disclosure
Affiliate disclosure.
How this site earns money — and why that never decides which cameras get scored higher.
The short version.
BestTrailCamera.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
When you click an outbound “Check Price on Amazon” button on any of our review or ranking pages and complete a purchase, Amazon may pay us a small commission. The commission costs you nothing. The price you pay is identical to what you would pay if you reached Amazon directly.
How we keep editorial honest.
Affiliate commissions create an incentive to promote products that pay rather than products that perform. We address this in three ways:
- Scoring is independent. Every camera is scored on the same six-dimension framework: image quality, value, ease of use, app quality, battery performance, and build quality. Commission rate plays no role in any of those dimensions.
- No paid placements. Brands cannot buy coverage, score adjustments, or position in our rankings. We do not accept review units in exchange for guaranteed coverage.
- We rank cameras we wouldn’t buy ourselves last. Our rankings include cameras with lower commissions when those cameras score higher. The SD-card and free-tier cellular picks generate less revenue than premium cellular cameras yet often rank higher.
Where the affiliate links appear.
Outbound affiliate links appear on individual camera review pages, brand hub pages, “best of” ranking pages, and the catalog. They are always tagged with rel=“nofollow sponsored” per Google’s and Amazon’s requirements for compensated links. A short inline disclosure appears above the first affiliate CTA on every page that has one, in addition to this dedicated page and the site footer.
What we do not do.
- We do not take sponsorship money or run paid “native” reviews.
- We do not adjust scores in response to brand outreach.
- We do not artificially inflate review counts or pretend to have field-tested cameras we have not handled. Reviews on this site are research-based, sourced from manufacturer specifications and verified user reviews. The methodology page explains the workflow in detail.
